Exterior Boat Polishing

A Wash Won't Fix Fading. Polishing Will.

UV exposure on the Okanagan is relentless. Gelcoat fades, oxidizes, and loses its gloss faster here than almost anywhere in Canada. Once a wash can't bring it back, polishing is the answer — a machine compound that cuts through the damaged surface layer and restores the depth of colour and shine underneath.

  • Machine cut and polish removes fading, scuffs, and oxidation
  • Sand restoration for heavy damage and deeply faded gelcoat
  • Finished with a protective wax sealant
  • Windows, swim deck, and metal included in every package
  • XPEL Marine ceramic coating available to lock in results
  • Mobile or indoor bay at Aqua Boat Club, Kelowna
Is Polishing Right for You?

Signs Your Hull Needs Polishing

If any of these sound familiar, a wash alone won't cut it — your hull needs to be polished.

🔆

Dull or Chalky Finish

Gelcoat that looks flat, chalky, or faded even after a wash has oxidized at the surface. Polishing removes that damaged layer and brings back the original gloss.

〰️

Scuffs & Surface Scratches

Light scratches, dock rub marks, and surface scuffs that won't wash off can usually be removed or significantly reduced with a cut and polish.

🟤

Deep Oxidation or Discolouration

Heavy oxidation, deep colour loss, or badly faded gelcoat — especially common on older Rinkers and Cobalts — requires wet sanding before polishing to restore.

XPEL Marine Ceramic Coating

Ceramic coating is the last step after polishing — and the smartest investment you can make in your hull. XPEL Marine bonds to the gelcoat and creates a hydrophobic shield that water, UV, algae, and contaminants can't penetrate.

  • Completely prevents oxidation and fading for 2–4 years
  • Hydrophobic surface — water sheets off, algae can't grip
  • Dramatically easier to keep clean all season
  • Applied only after polishing for maximum bond
  • Professional-grade product — not an off-the-shelf spray
  • Authorized XPEL Marine dealer — the real thing, properly applied

Common Questions

Boat Polishing FAQ

Cut polish wax starts at $34/ft and includes an acid wash. Sand restoration for heavily oxidized hulls is approximately $75/ft and is quoted after a visual assessment. All packages include windows, swim deck, and metal cleaning. XPEL Marine ceramic coating can be added for +$90/ft. Call 236-499-0008 for a quick quote on your specific boat.

Cut polish wax ($34/ft) uses a machine compound to remove light-to-moderate fading, scuffs, and surface marks — no sanding required. Sand restoration (~$75/ft) is for boats with heavy oxidation, deep discolouration, or significant gelcoat damage that a polish alone can't fix. It involves wet sanding to cut through the damaged layer before compounding and polishing. Not sure which your boat needs? Send us a photo or give us a call and we'll advise honestly.

If you're going to invest in polishing, ceramic coating is the smartest add-on you can choose. After polishing, your gelcoat is at its cleanest and most receptive — ceramic bonds best to a freshly polished surface. XPEL Marine ceramic (+$90/ft) then protects that result for 2–4 years, completely preventing re-oxidation and making the hull dramatically easier to maintain. We only apply ceramic after polishing — never on an unpolished surface.

A cut polish wax on a standard 20–24ft boat typically takes a full day. Sand restoration takes longer depending on the extent of damage. If ceramic coating is added, allow extra time for proper application and initial cure. We'll give you a realistic time estimate at booking.

Yes — we're fully mobile across the Okanagan. We come to your marina, dock, driveway, or storage yard. For marina boats under 31ft, we also offer a $150 pull-out at El Dorado Boat Launch where your boat is detailed on stilts at our Aqua Boat Club indoor bay — ideal for polishing since it gives us full access to the hull without water interference.

For most Okanagan boats, a cut polish every 2–3 seasons keeps the hull in great shape. If you add ceramic coating after polishing, you can extend that significantly — ceramic-coated hulls resist oxidation and fading for 2–4 years, meaning less frequent polishing and much easier seasonal maintenance. Boats without protection that sit in the sun all summer will need polishing more often.
