What We Fix

Gel Coat Damage We Repair

If it's surface damage to your gel coat, we can fix it — and match it so precisely you won't know the repair was ever there.

Chips & Gouges

Impact chips from dock lines, debris, or grounding events that expose the underlying fibreglass. Left untreated, they let water penetrate and expand. We fill, fair, and colour-match to invisible.

Scratches & Scuffs

Gel coat scratches from dock rubs, trailer guides, or contact with other boats. Surface-level scratches can often be polished out, but deeper ones need proper gel coat repair to restore the surface correctly.

Crazing & Spider Cracks

Fine surface cracks that spread outward from a stress point — often from impacts, flex, or age. We address the underlying cause, open the cracks properly, fill them, and refinish the surface for a clean result.

Oxidation & Fading

Years of UV exposure chalk and oxidize gel coat, leaving it dull, chalky, and uneven. Where polishing alone isn't enough, we restore the surface with fresh gel coat matched to your boat's original colour.

Blister Repairs

Osmotic blistering below the waterline left untreated will continue to grow and spread. We open, dry, and fill blisters properly before applying a matched gel coat finish — stopping the damage before it gets worse.

General Surface Restoration

Worn sections, old patches, or areas that just don't look right — we assess, repair, and refinish to bring the surface back to a consistent, clean standard across the whole area.

Why It Matters

Don't Let Small Damage Become a Big Problem

Gel coat is your boat's first and only line of defence against water intrusion into the fibreglass laminate. A chip or crack that looks cosmetic on the surface can allow water in — and once water gets into the substrate, you're looking at a far more expensive repair down the road.

We fix gel coat properly — not with a quick fill-and-spray that peels off after a season. Every repair is colour-matched, finished to blend seamlessly, and polished to match the surrounding gelcoat so you can't tell the work was ever done.

Stops water intrusion before it reaches the fibreglass laminate

Preserves resale value — damaged gel coat is a red flag for buyers

Correct prep and application means the repair lasts, not just looks good

Our Process
1

Assess & Prepare

We assess the damage, sand back to clean gel coat or fibreglass, and prep the area so the repair has a solid foundation to bond to.

2

Colour Match

We mix gel coat to match your boat's exact hull colour — accounting for fading and age so the repair blends, not stands out.

3

Fill & Build

Gel coat is applied in layers — allowing proper cure between coats to build up the repair to the correct surface level.

4

Sand, Polish & Blend

We wet-sand through progressive grits then compound and polish until the repair is invisible and the surface gloss matches the surrounding hull.

Colour Matching

Matched So Well You Won't Find the Repair

Colour matching is the hardest part of gel coat repair — and where most DIY repairs and rushed jobs fall apart. We mix custom gel coat to account for your boat's specific colour, the natural aging and fading of the surrounding surface, and the finish texture of the hull.

Custom-mixed gel coat for each boat — no off-the-shelf colour guessing

We account for UV fade and weathering so the repair blends seamlessly

Final polish brings the surface sheen to match the surrounding hull

Works on all gel coat colours — white, dark hulls, two-tone, and custom finishes

FAQ

Gel Coat Repair Questions

Common questions about gel coat repair and colour matching. Call us if you're not sure — we're happy to take a look and advise.

Yes — colour matching is what we do. We custom-mix gel coat to match your hull, accounting for both the original colour and the natural weathering and UV fading that happens over time. The goal is a repair that blends into the surrounding surface so completely that you can't locate where the repair was made.
We handle everything from small single chips up to larger areas of damage, crazing, or surface restoration. Give us a call and describe what you're dealing with — or send us a photo to info@okanaganmarineguys.ca — and we'll let you know if it's something we can sort for you.
No — we're fully mobile across the Okanagan. We can come to your marina, driveway, or storage yard to do the repair on site. Alternatively, you can bring your boat to our indoor bay at Aqua Boat Club in Kelowna, where we work in a controlled environment — particularly useful for larger or more complex repairs.
Gel coat is your boat's protective skin. What looks like a cosmetic chip is actually an opening for water to enter the fibreglass laminate beneath — which leads to osmotic blistering, delamination, and structural damage over time. Fixing it while it's small is always the smarter and cheaper call. Shore worth dealing with now.
Yes — and we recommend it. After the gel coat repair is complete and fully cured, polishing the repaired area (and ideally the whole hull) brings everything to a consistent gloss. Adding our XPEL Marine ceramic coating afterward seals and protects the fresh surface for years to come. Ask us about combining services.
Small repairs are often completed in a single visit. Larger areas or repairs that involve multiple coats and cure times may require a second visit. We'll give you a realistic timeframe when we assess the damage — no vague estimates.
